The Boiler Service Process

On arrival at Mr Auluk’s home in Codsall, Wolverhampton we quickly got to work on his Worcester Bosch combination boiler.

We started by doing some visual checks of the boiler, flue and gas pipework. Once satisfied the visual inspection raised no issues, we then moved on to test the boiler was functioning correctly in hot water and central heating modes. This tests the controls are working without error and the boiler itself is responding correctly to the controls.

Then we start to service the boiler, starting with thoroughly cleaning out the condensate trap and the magnetic filter of any debris.

After this is complete, we took the boiler casing off to enable us to access certain boiler components including the main heat exchanger. The heat exchanger is flushed through with water, clearing any debris. We also use a tool that gets inside the heat exchanger for a deeper clean.

Next on a boiler service, we take out the electrodes ( these are used for the spark to light the boiler ) to check and clean them. However, as this customer had opted for a full strip down boiler service and the existing electrodes were worn down, in this instance we replaced them. We also replaced the gas burner seals, also known as burner gaskets, which can deteriorate over time.

After all parts had been cleaned and replaced as required, the boiler is reassembled and we proceeded to test the gas supply for leaks. At this stage we also check for the correct gas pressure at the appliance and gas rate it –  this checks that the boiler has a sufficient gas supply and is working as it should.

Once these tests are all satisfied, we performed a flue integrity test which tests that the boiler is burning the gas correctly and no there are no leaks within the flue itself. Sometimes within this test it is necessary to adjust the gas and air mixture if the boiler isn’t running to optimum performance. On this occasion no adjustments of the gas valve were necessary.

Gas Safety Certification

Finally, after the boiler service is complete we issued the customer with a gas safety certificate to prove his boiler has been serviced correctly. The certificate contains all the readings and adjustments we have made.

Boiler Warranty

As Mr Auluk’s boiler is covered under the manufacturer warranty, an annual boiler service is a necessity as part of the manufacturers warranty terms and conditions. As well as providing the boiler service certificate via email, we completed the customers service record also as further proof of service.

Next Years Service

Once you are one of our customers, we will send you annual boiler service reminders; an email one month before the service is due and a text 2 weeks before it’s due. You can book your annual gas boiler service on our website through our easy online booking system like Mr Auluk did, or call our friendly team.
